About Brake
Brake is a registered charity campaigning for road safety and sustainable transport, and helping victims of road crashes. We work to inspire, inform, engage and enable action for change to achieve Vision Zero.
We have head offices in the UK and New Zealand to enable us to span time zones and communicate and work globally, particularly digitally, through webinars, online tools, and other smart solutions. We also have domestic operations in those countries (we have been working in the UK for more than 20 years) but have contacts and connections around the globe, including in low- and middle-income countries, to inform our work and get action.
Our work is grassroots and partnership-oriented. We believe in working together to save lives and the planet and support the victims of crashes. We work with communities, corporations, other NGOs, enforcement agencies and government representatives.

Our global work to stop the crises
Brake works in support of the Sustainable Development Goals, and with road safety and sustainable transport experts, to promote a Vision Zero campaign agenda that helps people understand the need for change, and what needs to happen.
We aim to inspire, inform, engage and achieve action by individuals, communities, organisations and governments to take individual and collective action to achieve the change we need.
We reach out to people who can make a difference by providing information and advice, through this website and a range of projects for our target audiences. For example, our Global Fleet Champions campaign is a not-for-profit global campaign to prevent crashes and reduce pollution caused by vehicles used for work purposes.We promote and organise community awareness raising events, such as Road Safety Weeks. We celebrate communities' efforts on our website www.roadsafetyweek.org promoting Road Safety Weeks in different nations. These are just a few examples of our work. Brake is a member of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration and Global Alliance of NGOs for road safety.
Meet our team
Brake's work is undertaken by paid staff and volunteers based in the UK and New Zealand, with the support of grants and donations from individuals, trusts, corporations and governments. Our chief executive is Mary Williams OBE (pictured below). Follow Mary @brakechiefexec
